JAMES SIDNEY "SID" COBB, 1926-2008
James Sidney Cobb 82, died Sunday, August 10, 2008 at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was born in Walhalla, South Carolina and lived in Savannah since 1947. He served in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific on air craft carriers and was decorated for flying missions as a gunner. After completing his Navy service, he worked for the Independent Life Insurance Company for 28 years. Following his retirement from the life insurance company he served as a dispatcher for the Thunderbolt Police Department for five years. He was also a volunteer at the Respiratory Therapy Department at Memorial Health University Medical Center. He was a member of Landrum Lodge #48 F&AM, a past member of the Scottish Rite, and Alee Temple Shriner where he was president of the Flag unit in 1979. He was a member of the Bacon Park Golf Club and the Senior Blitz where he had many friends. He has been a member of Faith Primitive Baptist Church for over fifty years.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret Boatwright Cobb of 50 years, one son, Michael D. Adams and his wife Jennie Inglesby Adams of Marietta, Ga., one granddaughter, Elizabeth Adams Schwartz and her husband, Michael J. Schwartz of Woodstock, Ga., and two great grandchildren, Dylan and Lily Schwartz as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, August 12, 2008 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors Hodgson Chapel.
Funeral Services will be Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at Faith Primitive Baptist Church with the Elder Dean Robbins officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens with Military and Masonic Services.
Active Pallbearers will be James R. Cobb, Gregory O. Bragg, David O. Bragg, Robbie Robinson, Gregory Ramsey, Sam Bennett and Mile Wheless.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Donald Andriezek, Wheldon Robbins, Raleigh Ward and the Bacon Park Senior Blitz golf members.
